The US Department of Finance has just published the largest purchase of its own bonds in history.
The treasury says that the $ 10 billion operation was designed to buy back effects that mature between July 15, 2025 and 31 May 2027.
By purchasing purchasing, the Treasury can retire early debts, which may reduce interest costs and adjust its debt profile.
This big repurchase comes as the rising revenues increase the loan costs, whereby Jerome Powell, chairman of the Federal Reserve, keeps the interest.
In an interview in April with Bloomberg, Finance Minister Scott Bessent rejected the concern about foreign countries that feed a sale of a bond market, instead pointing to investors who relax lifting tree positions.
At the same time, Bessert specifically called the capacity of the Treasury to increase the repurchase program if necessary.
When asked if he discusses concern about the stability of the treasury market with Powell, Bessent rejected the idea that there is some reason for the alarm.
“Specifically, have we discussed the glass a kind of break? I think we are far from that.”
Historical data indicate that the previous largest return of the treasury took place in 2000, with around $ 3 billion.
